Chantal Santon Jeffery

 

Appreciated for her "warm and supple voice, beautifully sustained" (Le Monde) and her stage presence, Chantal Santon Jeffery deploys unanimously acclaimed technical qualities that allow her to tackle many repertoires, and in particular, in opera, the roles the most diverse: from Mozart (Donna Anna, Elvira, Fiordiligi, the Countess, Sandrina…) to contemporary creation (Lolo Ferrari by Fourgon, Hochzeitvorbereitungen by Strasnoy) via Wagner (Senta in the French version of The Flying Dutchman), Britten (Governess in The turn of the screw), Haydn (title role of Armida), Hervé (Mélusine in The Knights of the Round Table), Boismortier (Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse), Campra (Tancrède), Rameau (La Folie in Platée, the Temple of Glory), Gassman (Opera Seria) or Purcell (King Arthur, title role of Dido and Aeneas…).

 

Regularly invited by prestigious orchestras such as Le Concert Spirituel, Les Talens Lyriques, Le Cercle de l'Harmonie, Les Siècles, Le Concert de la loge, Opera Fuoco, the Brussels Philharmonic, the ONF, the ONDIF, the Orchester de Chambre de Paris, Pygmalion, the Orfeo Orchestra, Les Ambassadeurs, I Barocchisti or the Philarmonia Baroque Orchestra, she performs on the most beautiful European stages (Salle Pleyel, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Théâtre du Châtelet, Cité de la Musique, La Fenice, Palais Bozar, Palau de la Musica Catalana, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Bruges, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Rudolfinum in Prague, opera houses in Versailles, Bordeaux, Rennes, Avignon, Metz, Reims, etc.), in America (Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Herbst Theater in San Francisco…) or in Asia (Hong Kong Philharmonic, Yokohama Opera…).

 

Among his projects for the 21/22 season are, on stage: Dido and Aeneas at the Avignon and Reims opera houses; the Martyrdom of San Sebastian by Debussy at the Bologna Opera, staged by Fura dels Baus; Phaëton by Lully at the Opéra de Nice; at the concert: Le Caprice d'Erato by Colin de Blamont in Helsinki, the Mass in C by Mozart, Adonis by Rameau in Budapest, the Coronation Mass by Paisiello and Mozart's Requiem in Brussels and Metz, a Handel recital in Rome under the direction of Jérôme Corréas, a Mozart recital with the Concert de la Loge by Julien Chauvin…

 

His extensive discography largely includes rare French works (notably in association with the Palazzetto Bru Zane or the Baroque Music Center of Versailles). Recently released: Maître Péronilla by Offenbach with the Orchester National de France under the direction of Markus Poschner (role of Alvarez), Jephté de Montclair (role of Iphise); the Voyages of Love by Boismortier (Love), Passionately by Messager with the Bayerischer Rundfunk Orchester., Dardanus by Rameau (Venus) with the Orfeo Orchestra by György Vasheghi with whom she also recorded her last recital, Brillez Astres nouvelles, which met with great international critical acclaim.

Coming soon: Les Fêtes d'Hébé by Rameau, Omphale by Cardonne, melodies with orchestra by Massenet with the Orchester de chambre de Paris as well as Amor Conjugale by Mayr conducted by David Stern.
